In an effort to recognize outstanding dedication and contributions by a member of our organization, in 2011, President Michelle Babson initiated the “Famed Lightered Knot Award”.
Definition: Resined heartwood pine that has become almost petrified or fossilized — thereby rot resistant. Because of this, it has been used by surveyors as a corner designation, most often in swampy areas where rot would be accelerated.
